Chairman's Message 18 October 2021

It was pleasing to see several APSA Members at the Monaco Yacht Show 2021, and in this newsletter we cover some of their activities. Boutsen Design, headed by Daniella Boutsen, talks about their successful collaboration with Solaris Yachts, while Adam Whittle from Brookes Bell, was at the MYS to talk about the advanced non-destructive testing techniques which will save both owners and yards time and money when it comes to drydocking maintenance and repairs.

SevenStar Yacht Transport continues to be busy shipping yachts around the world, and recently announced as many as eleven new sailings to and from Asia Pacific. Jan Maarten Boissevain, Sales Director of SevenStar Yacht Transport, reports that, “Many yacht owners want their yachts shipped home, and we are happy that we can provide our clients with sailing options for October and November.” If you are considering moving your yacht, please check with them on availability of slots.

More good news comes from the ‘opening’ of a number of South East Asia destinations, including Singapore, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. New regulations for flying into Phuket will make it easier for crew changes, with the eventual reopening of Thailand scheduled to take place on 1st November 2021. Sri Lanka has also opened its doors, and the government and Tourism Board have pulled out all the stops to ensure that every precautionary measure has been set in place to make visitor experiences safe, secure, and as serene as possible. Sail Lanka Charter is reporting a sharp rebound in charter bookings, given there are no restrictive quarantine measures requiredAustralia is still off limits to overseas visitors, but that has not stopped the shipyards’ activities or refit programmes. The Superyacht Basin at Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM) will be looking a little different in the next few days once M/Y Lady Christine (68m Feadship) sets off for Tahiti, after having been in residence at the shipyard for the last 6 months.

Catalano Shipping Services have also been busy rolling out their new App, called 'Agents', which not only links them to their clients but also links their offices together to achieve their goal of seamless support. "We are already seeing the fantastic connectivity" reports CSS NZ Managing Director Duthie Lidgard. "We've had a few clients even during Covid moving seamlessly from NZ to Indonesia to Singapore to Europe - and supported by Agents all the way through.”

Finally, APSA would like to congratulate the Navim Group on their 50th Anniversary. This company has been designing and manufacturing marine equipment for luxury giga and megayachts since 1990, and 10 years ago the company inaugurated its own Yacht Lab, strategically located in Livorno. This year they will have a stand at METS in the Superyacht Pavilion, so please drop by and congratulate them.

Travel Cue is also celebrating a decade of operations. Having weathered the economic downturn and the global pandemic, the company has risen as a leader in the travel management scene. Today with more than 150 employees across 15 countries, the company continues to grow at over 20 per cent year-on-year, with 2021 being no different.

Finally, find out more about Raphael Beaudrey, an APSA Founding Member and our current Honorary Secretary. APSA is looking to playing a stronger role in the future, with more yachts coming to the Asia-Pacific Region, and it will be developing stronger connections to the regional boating communities; more news on that in the next newsletter.

Stay safe, and stay connected.
