Chairman's Message 21 June 2021
We are now half way through the year and while some countries are still experiencing lockdowns, other places are opening up and events are starting to happen. Christophe Ceard (APSA Vice Chairman) recently attended the Palma Superyacht Show and reported that the show was a lively event with some structured gatherings, that definitely helped to kick start the season for the European superyacht community and point the industry in the right direction.
APSA is delighted to welcome a new member, LJ Fiduciary, a part of the Family Office Services division of the Alvarium Group of Companies. A fully licensed and regulated Trust and Corporate Services Provider, LJ Fiduciary has a proud history of providing market-leading trust and fiduciary solutions to private clients, HNWI, entrepreneurs, family offices, and their enterprises.
More good news comes from the Cook Islands, who have announced that they now have a travel bubble with New Zealand. Maritime Cook Islands would also like to announce its Cook Islands Maritime Industry Panel Talks on 25th June, in celebration of the International Maritime Organization’s ‘Day of the Seafarer’. Find out all about the event in this newsletter.
Meanwhile Asia Pacific Superyachts (APS) have been very active ‘Down Under’, participating in the recent ASMEX (Australian Superyacht, Marine Export & Commercial Marine Industry) Conference and the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, where APS were keen to support the Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef by taking part of this group’s high profile and beautifully presented dock walk stand. Given that Cairns and North Queensland are the last port feeders for Superyachts transitioning from Australia to Indonesia and onward into Asia, this was a great networking opportunity.
The Australian domestic superyacht scene continues to be very active, with a luxurious new facility catering for superyacht owners and captains destined to be the centerpiece of the expanded Rivergate Marina and Shipyard. At the same time, Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM) have recently launched a new website detailing all the services they offer at GCCM – the perfect Pacific refit, marina and service center.
Asia also continues to be a hot yachting market with Simpson Marine introducing the SanLorenzo 500EXP Explorer to Asian buyers. The company is also welcoming a brand-new Lagoon Sixty 7 into Hong Kong this summer.
Long term APSA member Colin Dawson reminds us to, “Beware of what you are buying, and from whom.” Meaning: the importance of properly understanding the insurance cover that you are buying, and really knowing those from whom you are buying it, rather than making a decision based merely on price.
Last but by no means least, Asia Pacific Boating has launched a new Marine Directory, and – given the number of new members who have joined us in the first 6 months of this year – we at APSA will be updating our APSA Guide shortly. Please make sure that we have all the latest information for your company: contact details, addresses, logos, websites URLs, and social media links, so we can make sure YOU are included and marketed!
Stay safe, and keep connected!
