BA Returns Operations to India

British Airways has returned to India with services to DEL, BOM, HYD and BLR and MAA. These flights are being released as relief/repatriation flights and with them carry restrictions as to who can travel.

Customers MUST meet all requirements and complete several forms and registrations to allow them to travel. Failure to comply will likely result in denied boarding.

Who can travel via outbound flights from India?

  • The standard UK Nationals/Residents and Foreign nationals transiting through UK or Spouse of these persons whether accompanying or otherwise
  • Any Indian national holding any type of valid UK Visa and destined for UK
  • Seamen of foreign nationalities
  • Seamen holding Indian passports subject to clearance of Ministry of Shipping

Who can travel via inbound flights to India?

  • Stranded Indian nationals
  • OCI Cardholders holding British passports
  • Foreign nationals including Diplomats holding valid Visa issued by Indian Mission in any category covered under MHA Guidelines dated 30 June 2020

Resources of eligibility:

The following is information for transit customers:

  • Ex India -No transfers allowed in India all customers MUST terminate at point of entry. This restriction is ongoing until further notice.
  • Ex LHR – Customers in transit at LHR will be allowed to board as long as they have complied with all the necessary registrations and carry the correct documentation and are eligible to enter India. No transits are allowed via the Indian gateways, all customers must terminate at first point of arrival in India.

Booking requirements before you travel:

  • Once booked customers MUST complete the process and forms as shown on ba.com in the India section.
  • All customers travelling on services ex UK are required to register with the Indian High Commission in London, this includes any customers in transit from other countries e.g. YYZ-LON-DEL customer MUST register with the Indian High Commission in London and complete all forms as detailed on ba.com
  • Download and complete this form on ba.com and submit your information to the relevant email address below, no later than 24hours prior to travel. Please retain a printed copy for when you travel.
  • Once you have your seat number, register here with the Government of India. This needs to be done prior to arrival and confirmation will need to be shown at the airport. If you are unable to check-in online and view your seat number, you can submit the form online after you have checked in at the airport.
  • If you would like to apply for quarantine exemption, please also fill in this form to be completed 72 hours prior to departure

Pre-Departure Requirements:

  • Check-in staff will be required to check that customers have all the mandatory paperwork and relevant entry documents prior to acceptance
  • Any additional health checks will also be completed

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required:

In addition to BA’s standard Personal Protective Kits (PPK) that are being handed out to all customers, as these flights are operating as relief / repatriation services, British Airways is required to comply with Indian Government requirements and the following is also required:

  • Face Shields Will be handed to all customers at the boarding gates both ex UK and India for use during boarding and the flight.
  • Gowns Will be provided for all customers where this is a requirement (occupation of a middle seat)

Customers who are denied travel ex LHR:

  • Effective 20AUG20 – there has been a update to the rebooking of customers who are refused travel. The airports will now give the customer a letter which advises them to call BA. One free booking change is allowed via BA call centres with customer letter to be able to change to the next available service enabling customers to comply with all the necessary completion of forms and registrations. The fare will be re-calculated and any increase in fare will need to be paid for by the customer.
