Cannes Yachting Festival 2020 is Cancelled
The 2020 edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival has been cancelled, according to reports and it is understood that organiser Reed Expositions is now reaching out to exhibitors to informing them of the news. The official cancellation of the show, which was due to take place from September 8-13, comes after organisers applied for special dispensation from the French government to hold the event.
On August 11, the French government announced a ban on more than 5,000 people gathering at an event until at least October 30 due to COVID-19. Days later, the UK government announced quarantine on arrivals from France due to a spike in coronavirus infection cases.
With the French government extended its ban on mass gatherings of over 5,000 people. This move heavily impacted the possibility of the show going ahead, particularly as Cannes Yachting Festival typically attracts around 50,000 visitors per year.
The show, which was scheduled to take place from September 8 – 13, was looking forward to welcoming 420 vessels, that would be berthed in both the Old Port and Port Canto. This is another major blow for the yachting market which has seen most major boat shows and events cancelled or postponed this year!
