Chairman’s Message March, 2023
Dear APSA Members and Friends
There is plenty of action in the Asia-Pacific, and we are pleased to announce that APSA is a Sponsoring Partner for both the Singapore Yachting Festival (27-30 April) and Southeast Asia Yachting Conference (26 April). We look forward to an opportunity to catch up with our Singapore-based members and friends, plus any visiting APSA members who will be attending the Conference and the Festival. Do let us know if you plan to be there!
This week there is two boat shows happening on either side of the world. Firstly, the Palm Beach Boat Show and also the Japan International Boat Show and APSA members will be at both. So let us know if you will also be attending.
This month we are pleased to welcome two new members: StellarPM, a new Premium Member who are building superyachts in Vietnam, and Tropical Serenity, a yacht management company based in Tahiti whose local knowledge of French Polynesia means they can provide top quality support and services for visiting superyachts. Information on both companies can be found under the Members’ Directory on the APSA website.
In this newsletter we also follow up on APSA’s activities at the Dubai International Boat Show and the Middle East Yachting Conference, where I, as APSA Chairman, along with David Good, CEO of AIMEX (the Australian International Marine Export Group) and Superyacht Australia; and Ismail Hameed, president of the National Boating Association of the Maldives, reviewed the growth of superyacht ownership and charter across the region. At a time of exponential growth how far can supply meet demand? These are questions that will need addressing for the industry to be sustainable in the region.
Other news is from Superyacht Australia on their Superyacht Soirée held in partnership with Benetti Yachts at Jones Bay Marina, Sydney, which was a super success! And the Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM) has recently announced their support for the young Australian Zavier Doerr, who plans to sail around ‘the Island’. The Little Aussie Lap, his solo, nonstop, unassisted, circumnavigation of Australia in a 21ft high performance carbon fibre race yacht.
There has been an overwhelming response from members submitting news stories this month, so rather than have one very long newsletter we will continue to have two newsletters per month so that we can share all the Asia-Pacific news in a timely and more digestible manner.
We value our members and look forward the exciting time ahead in 2023.
Regards
Nigel Beatty
