Port Denarau Gears Up with Infrastructure Upgrades
In anticipation of a surge in vessel traffic, Port Denarau is set to undergo significant infrastructure upgrades and improvements throughout the year. Port Denarau CEO Cynthia Rasch told Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) recently that these enhancements aim to enhance the overall experience for yacht owners, crew members, and visitors, solidifying Port Denarau’s status as a premier yachting destination and a bustling tourist hub.
While Port Denarau continues to attract international attention, Rasch said its vital role in bolstering the local economy. In a recent statement, she conveyed that the awaited upgrades are not contingent on government support but on the collaboration of Denarau Corporation and other stakeholders. Rasch expressed optimism about initiating dredging operations soon, coinciding with potential government dredging for the channel. Further expansion projects are expected to be announced by the board of directors in the near future. “We have plans for dredging, channel expansion, and additional infrastructure upgrades within the marina. This is a strategic move to meet the increasing demands and uphold Port Denarau’s reputation,” Rasch was quoted as saying.
In addition to these major projects, Rasch highlighted the continuous maintenance efforts to ensure that the facility meets the expected service levels. With a significant influx of tourists forecasted, she stressed the importance of the marina and its staff being prepared to cater to the growing numbers. “We are already expecting a substantial number of guests, and our focus is on ensuring that the marina facility and our team are fully equipped to meet the demand,” Rasch affirmed.
The rise in the number of yachts is anticipated to have a positive ripple effect on businesses in the surrounding area, including those in hospitality, retail, and tourism services. Port Denarau’s commitment to elevating its facilities aligns with its vision to not only meet the needs of yacht enthusiasts but also contribute significantly to the local economy’s growth. The forthcoming upgrades position Port Denarau as a beacon for maritime enthusiasts and tourists seeking an unparalleled experience in the heart of Fiji. In 2022, 591 vessels, including 12 super yachts, visited the country.
