UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
GMT Global Marine Travel sends a reminder that the UK government has made some recent changes immigration rules – among these changes is the requirement for ETA for travel to the UK. The United Kingdom Electronic Travel Authorisation (UK ETA) is an official travel permit introduced by the British government for nationals of visa-exempt countries. This authorization is mandatory for eligible travellers and must be obtained prior to visiting the UK for purposes such as tourism, family visits, business, transit, or certain Creative Worker activities.
As part of the UK’s initiative to digitize border control by 2025, the UK ETA provides a simplified and efficient alternative to traditional visas. It offers a convenient way for travellers to gain entry for short-term stays, streamlining the process while maintaining security and compliance with immigration policies.
Qualifying non-European visitors will need an ETA from 08 January 2025 and can apply from now.
Non-European visitors covers many nationalities including USA.
European visitors will need an ETA from 02 April 2025 and will be able to apply from 05 March 2025.
