Chairman’s Message Mid May 2021
Dear APSA Members and Friends,
The Current May/June issue of Asia Pacific Boating focuses on sustainability, and the sea. There is an enormous amount of activity and plenty of issues to be addressed, and it is difficult to touch on them all.
The 10th annual ASMEX Conference was capped off with a beautiful evening commencing with Pre-Dinner Drinks sponsored Benetti Yachts followed by a celebration of the outstanding achievers in Australian superyacht, marine export and commercial Industry at the 2021 Australian Marine Industry Awards Gala Dinner.
Data released at the Australian Superyacht, Marine Export and Commercial Industry Conference (ASMEX) by Superyacht Australia, the peak body for the superyacht industry, shows that foreign flagged superyachts stayed an average of 128 days in 2020 compared to an average of 73 days in 2019 representing a 75% increase in the length of stay. The economic impact of this was just over $100M and represents a 58% increase on 2019’s already impressive economic impact of $63M.
With two units already sold and a third under construction, the new model confirms[Sanlorenzo](https://www.simpsonmarine.com/manufacturer/sanlorenzo/)‘s determination to be a driving force of continuous evolution in the metal superyacht sector, raising existing standards time after time. With an overall length of 61.50 metres, a maximum beam of 11.90 metres, a gross tonnage of 1,300 tonnes and five decks, the new 62Steel Cloud 9 combines a strong, elegant and balanced line with ample volumes, advanced technologies and excellent navigation capabilities that guarantee comfort and liveability on board never seen on models of the same size.
As there has been some speculation in the past few weeks as to changes/ restrictions in Thailand for foreign flagged vessels, APS hopes the following information will help clarify current protocols.
The past 12 months have proved to be very special for the Sanlorenzo shipyard which has launched three of its Yacht Division flagship models within the same year. Late 2020 saw the extraordinary introduction of the[Sanlorenzo SX112,](https://www.simpsonmarine.com/newyacht/sanlorenzo/sx112/)the ultimate crossover yacht that is a smart synthesis between a classic motoryacht and an explorer vessel allowing for regional cruising in unmistakable style. Her many features include an extensive sea lounge area on the water level, allowing owners and their guests to stay close to sea and enjoy its serenity and beauty throughout the day.
Benetti Yachts, Italian excellence in superyacht construction since 1873, is brilliantly riding the wave of market growth in a season that promises very satisfying results. Despite the complexities caused by the global pandemic, Benetti Yachts possesses 34 superyachts orders at a value of €700 million, accounting for units both under construction and planning to go on construction before 2021 spring time, reaching a portfolio worth exceeding 1 billion euros in total of Azimut | Benetti Group. Despite the present COVID-19 restrictions, the nautical market has enjoyed a busy season originating from the widespread desire for escape, freedom and safety of the sea. Consumers’ lure of escaping to the open water has led to an uptrend in yacht orders.
Travel Cue’s holding company, Connect Group, has been recognized in the latest Financial Times ranking as one of the High Growth Companies Asia-Pacific in 2021, earning a position in the exclusive ranking amongst the top 500 companies within the region.
