The Cape Hawk 690 – A new generation of yacht ownership
In the last newsletter, we discussed how the current superyacht market needs challenging, moving ownership from expensive hobby to profitable passion investment.
The Cape Hawk 690 will be presented at the APSA stand at the SYS in April, having been launched at BOOT Düsseldorf 2018.
Why is this yacht so different in its concept?
We have described that we believe the current superyacht market to be high cost/low value. Our concept is designed to be low cost/high value. The Cape 690, a 48m 688gt world voyager is specifically designed to achieve this from the concept through the design and into the build and after service.
How?
- By building commercially where we can and superyacht where we should, we dramatically reduce build costs.
- We assure quality through Northern European build team.
- By providing a luxury, comfortable, practical interiors to a budget by our partners Beiderbeck Design.
- We minimise maintenance costs through fitting commercially proven engineering equipment and propulsion systems that can be crew maintained.
- We provide a full efficient after-sales maintenance and crewing service through Swiss Ocean, a sister company to Hawk Yachts, that has teamed up with CSM/Marlow – the biggest commercial ship management company in the world.
- We reduce maintenance through a fitted remote monitoring system resulting in commission based maintenance.
- The extensive experience of Hawk Yachts in expedition is at the heart of the concept with Design and Naval Architecture undertaken by Laurent Giles with support from Southampton Solent University. From the ground upwards, the objectives of interior and exterior design are to provide the owner unparalleled experiences, and at the same time making sure that the yacht is highly desirable yacht for charter.
- The provision of in-house post-sales, covering service, charter and holiday sales, and itinerary planning, with the objective of expanding the experience of owners and charter guests alike, and minimising inefficient outsourcing and maximising charter/holiday revenue.
- We are highly knowledgeable in the area of costs, and leave nothing out (unlike some others). We include depreciation, positioning, port dues, fuel costs and a high reserve for refit and annual maintenance. These fully calculated lifetime costs allow us to properly assess a business plan that shows that a ROI can be achieved with as little as 35% charter occupancy. Within a 52-week season and with a growing demand for experiential charter and travel among the younger rich, this target is entirely realistic if not pessimistic.
It all adds up to the presentation of a new generation yacht, attracting the 97% that could afford a yacht but currently don’t have one.
