Overview
Malaysia is a country in two parts. Peninsular Malaysia starts just below Thailand and runs south to Singapore; the rest, Sabah and Sarawak, is on the island of Borneo. It offers duty-free islands, colonial history and world-class diving, all safely south of the typhoon zone.
On the peninsula's west coast, Langkawi is beautiful and duty-free, with repair and support facilities for superyachts. Georgetown (Penang) is the stuff of romantic colonial dreams, and Malacca is a slice of history. The east coast highlight is Pulau Tioman, though it offers scant yacht facilities.
Across the South China Sea, "the Land below the Wind" - Sabah and Sarawak - centres on the historic towns of Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, with the marina at Sutera Harbour and some of the finest diving in the world off the east coast.
