Southeast Asia: Ha Long Bay and a 3,444km coast, an emerging superyacht frontier

Overview

Superyacht activity is not yet a major presence in Vietnam, but there are plenty of good anchorages and plenty to see, both along the coast - start with Ha Long Bay - and ashore, from the Imperial Citadel at Hue to the cities of the north and south.

Ho Chi Minh City is high-tempo and cosmopolitan, while Hanoi is French Colonial and steeped in history. One word of caution: be sure to phone ahead, because the authorities do not welcome unannounced visitors, and advance notice is essential.

Every two years the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club organises a 673-nautical-mile race from Hong Kong to Nha Trang. New marinas are opening up the length of the coast, from Tuan Chau at Ha Long to Vung Tau in the south. The dry cruising season runs from mid-October to March.
