The Catalano Shipping Pacific team has just returned from Tahiti, where the docks are full, the fleet is impressive, and the energy is exactly what you’d hope for mid-season in the South Pacific. Marina de Papeete and Marina Taina are humming, and a strong international fleet are working their way through French Polynesia’s Society Islands. It was great to be following the sun, connecting with captains, crew and agents, swapping stories from the season. And while everyone is making the most of what Tahiti has to offer, the conversation keeps turning south. New Zealand is firmly on the radar.

The Route South: Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand

For most vessels, the passage south follows a familiar arc — French Polynesia through to Fiji, then on to New Zealand ahead of cyclone season. Many vessels are arriving in New Zealand with a clear plan: get the maintenance and refit work done and be ready for summer guest programmes. New Zealand’s marine industry is well set up to deliver on it.
