This is the last newsletter for 2023, and it ushers in some major changes for the Asian Region with the news that SanLorenzo S.p.A. has signed a binding share purchase agreement to acquire 95% of the share capital of Simpson Marine Ltd from Mike Simpson. The Simpson Marine Group has represented SanLorenzo in Asia since 2015, and this agreement will allow SanLorenzo to establish a direct presence in the strategic APAC region.

Sanlorenzo S.p.A. announced that it has signed a binding share purchase agreement to acquire 95% of share capital of Simpson Marine Limited from Mike Simpson. The transaction, finalised on 7 December 2023, marks a strategic move that enhances Sanlorenzo’s direct presence in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The acquisition will maintain and develop the connections, expertise and experience gained over the years by Simpson Marine.
The 2023 Horizon Yacht Australia Owners’ Rendezvous brought 10 Horizon yachts and 100 guests to Airlie Beach, in the stunning Whitsundays, for a fifth year of laughter, libations and, of course, the Long Table Lunch. It has been another busy year for HFW, and the yacht team are delighted to present the latest edition of Comprehensively Yachts. Packed with topical comment and analysis this edition looks at the economic impact of Russian sanctions. Twenty-one months since the invasion of Ukraine, the yachting industry, having been hard hit by the sanctions has largely settled down and found new business to replace that which has been lost or turned away.
The new Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard headquarters were inaugurated in Ancona at a solemn ceremony attended by representatives of institutions and authorities from the shipbuilding and maritime sector. The ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Authorities and Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi who officially opened this new area in the Superyacht Yard, which is now ready to become an important strategic and operating hub.
Germany-based yacht builders Dörries Yachts has unveiled the renderings for a new 70-m that will no doubt appeal to clients who wants a unique yacht with ‘wellness’ at the heart of the design, but also with Northern European build quality, and without the need to wait years to start the build. The motor yacht concept combines elegance, innovation, and unrivalled luxury to create a sleek and sophisticated superyacht.
Benetti Yachts Motopanfilo 37M is a yacht suspended in time, an example of classicism projected into the future. This elegant and modern composite displacement boat satisfies the tastes and needs of contemporary owners, but has its roots in the design of the Benetti motoryachts of the 60s, of which it incorporates the gentle and distant fashions, yielding much larger spaces in bright and constant visual contact with the sea.

Burgess is excited to announce superyacht charters available in the Asia-Pacific region: both STARLUST and WANDERLUST are available from December onwards in the Maldives and Thailand and STARLUST is available this winter in the Maldives and Thailand, with availability over the Christmas and New Year period.
Thomas Christoffel and crew aboard Paikea (Bavaria 37) crossed the finish line at 06:55 (UTC) 7 December, arriving just ahead the prize giving which takes place this evening at Prickly Bay. The 11th edition of ARC+ participants have received a warm and enthusiastic welcome in Grenada, and have been enjoying their introduction to the Island.
In 2023 Cayago Asia Pacific announced three new Seabob dealers in Asia, appointing Motor Field in Thailand, Supreme Yachts in Taiwan and Wuxi-based Global Network, which joins the brand’s dealers in China. The dealers join an existing Seabob network including Ride2X Power Sports based in Sanya on China’s Hainan Island, Smooth Marine in Hong Kong, and La Marca Marine in Singapore.

The Thailand international boat show 2024 (TIBS) will take place at the Royal Phuket Marina between 11 – 14 January 2024, with over 6,000 visitors and more than 100 exhibitors expected to attend. Organised by JAND Events, a trading division of JAND Group, the event is supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand (MOTST), Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) demonstrating support for the government’s yacht tourism initiative. The Thai Yachting Business Association (TYBA) has come on board as one of the industry supporting authorities.
The Hong Kong International Boat Show 2023 reported a positive response from dealers, exhibitors, and visitors. The organiser, Club Marina Cove, said the four-day event received the full support of the Hong Kong Boating Industry Association and its members. About 40 boats of the latest designs and makes from Italy, France, Britain, Poland, Finland, USA, South Africa, China, and Hong Kong were on display at the show.
The Asia-Pacific is back in action with Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong all hosting boat shows and events in 2024. There is a lot to look forward in the coming year, so make sure you put these dates in your calendar now.
APSA has been busy in November promoting the Asia-Pacific region to the global superyacht community at METSTRADE 2023. This year Committee members Christophe Ceard (Vice Chairman), Bryan Tse (Honorary Treasurer) and Gordon Fernandes (General Committee) were able to attend, along with APSA’s Executive Director Suzy Rayment. Christophe, who has been attending METSTRADE for the last 15 years said, “the event is definitely getting better every year, and I consider this to be one of the key events on the superyacht calendar.”

Nazmi Topcuoglu, the Managing Director and Senior Marine Surveyor in Singapore, has over 20 years of experience in management. Fema Marine performs surveys in ports all over the world, for superyachts, survey yachts, ships, and barges of all types and sizes.
METSTRADE is the world’s largest trade exhibition for equipment, materials, and systems for the international leisure marine industry. Celebrating its 35th Anniversary, METSTRADE which is organised by RAI Amsterdam in cooperation with ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry), this year reported record attendance. Visitors came from all sectors of the industry: yacht builders, naval architects, refit yards, distributors, dealers, wholesalers, captains, marina owners and marine equipment manufacturers worldwide.
The Hong Kong International Boat Show starting on the November 30 and running to the December 3 offers visitors an exciting four-day programme at the Club Marina Cove, Sai Kung, Hong Kong. The popular show has for the past two decades provided a unique platform for dealers and buyers to interact and share the latest designs and developments in boating.
