The pilot opening ceremony of Bali Gapura Marina took place on 26 November 2025 — a milestone moment for Indonesia’s maritime ambitions. Part of the Maritime Tourism Hub, a National Strategic Project, Bali Gapura Marina is supported by the Indonesian Government, the Bali Local Government, Pelindo, and Marina Developments Indonesia (MDI).
Government and Industry Leaders in Attendance
The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of government dignitaries and industry leaders, including the Governor of Bali, Bapak Wayan Koster; the Head of KSOP Class II Benoa, Ministry of Sea Transportation, Bapak Aprianus Hangki; and the Director of Tourism, Creative Economy & Digital at the Ministry of BAPPENAS, Bapak Wahyu Wijayanto. Also in attendance were senior representatives from Pelindo Holding, Pelindo Solusi Logistik, and Bali Government.
APSA Strategic Partner Suzy Rayment represented the Asia Pacific Superyacht Association, alongside maritime brand partners Europa Yachts, Salaya Yachts, and Metarina. Project and construction partners included SF Marina Indonesia, Plus Marine, North Sea Boats, 2M Design LAB, Woodlam Indonesia, REDY, Socialive, and the Indonesian Nautical Agency.
A Vision Becoming Reality
“The pilot opening of Dock B at Bali Gapura Marina is not just the start of operations — it is the beginning of a shared vision becoming reality. The vision to make Indonesia ‘The New Yachting Paradise.’ What we see around us was achieved in record time. In the water is not just Dock B, but floating pontoons for another three docks that will be installed in the coming months.”
— Ulf Backlund, Founder, Marina Developments Indonesia
MDI believes this is a testament to what can happen when government, industry, and community work hand in hand with a clear purpose. The whole project, including all land and water facilities, is planned for completion in 2028 — establishing Bali Gapura Marina as Indonesia’s largest and first full-service, international-standard marina.
Balinese Heritage at the Heart of the Project
“Bali is an island of deep cultural significance, and it is a privilege to develop this project with respect for its people, its traditions, and its future. In everything we do, we integrate Balinese philosophies and values. We hope this marina will stand as a symbol of collaboration and as a gateway — ‘Where Balinese Heritage meets the World of Yachting’.”
— Ulf Backlund, Founder, Marina Developments Indonesia
MDI has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for its next marina project in Indonesia, looking to build not just a marina, but a lasting legacy for Indonesia’s maritime future.
