Report reveals Superyacht growth potential in Far North Queensland

A man is being interviewed by three women holding microphones and a recorder on a wooden quay, with yachts and boats in the background. Several other people stand nearby under a cloudy sky.

According to a report commissioned by Superyacht Australia and the Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef, superyachts visiting Cairns contributed A$103.7 million to the local economy in 2016/17 and supported over 1 100 jobs. The report argues that allowing foreign‑flagged superyachts to charter in Australian waters could boost economic benefits by 70 percent within four years. It highlights Cairns’ world‑class marina, international airport, skilled trades and proximity to the Great Barrier Reef, and urges regulatory changes to unlock growth.
