The 2020 edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival has been cancelled, according to reports and it is understood that organiser Reed Expositions is now reaching out to exhibitors to informing them of the news.

While parts of Asia shine, other areas of the Asia Pacific are still waiting for conditions to improve. APSA follows up with some of its members to find out how they are surviving the COVID-19 crisis. Mike Simpson, MD and founder of Simpson Marine says, “The Hong Kong boat market is doing remarkably well this year in spite of the pandemic-related lockdown restrictions and a weakened economy.” 

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation the Thailand Charter Week 2020 has been postponed to 2021. The new dates are the 12th to the 15th of November 2021. The preliminary plan is for the opening ceremony from 5pm on Friday the 12th of November followed by two days of on and off water displays at the Phuket Yacht Haven.

The contracts have been signed and construction is about to begin on the new fuel testing, metallurgy and non-destructive testing (NDT) centre. Brookes Bell Chief Technical Officer Ray Luukas, says: “This is an exciting next step, the contracts have been signed for the fit out, construction commences on 3 August and the building is scheduled to be completed – coronavirus permitting – on 23 October.

The New Normal Era.

Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM) has now completed the construction of expansive new undercover hardstand areas with additional blasting and painting facilities to meet growing demand from 50ft-plus vessels.

Travel Cue has been organising regular charter flights to key ports in an outstanding humanitarian effort to bring seafarers home. In the past one month, Travel Cue has successfully organised in excess of 25 charter flights, moving more than 3000 passengers, to assist their clients and collaborate with key partners to bring seafarers home during these difficult times.

Stranded at sea due to the COVID-19 crisis, 210 seafarers from 65 different vessels were successfully repatriated to their homes from Amsterdam (AMS) to Manila (MNL) on a chartered aircraft organized entirely by Global Marine Travel’s dedicated team of travel experts.
