China and Hong Kong have rapidly dismantled their Covid Zero regimes. In China the state-run “Communications Itinerary Card”, which tracks whether someone has been to a high-risk area based on their phone signal, when off line on Tuesday 13 December, according to an official WeChat post. Hong Kong administration also announced easing of its Covid Traveller restrictions, and as of Wednesday 14 December, Hong Kong’ s LeaveHomeSafe QR codes would be removed, PCR tests scaled back and quarantine wristbands abandoned, while the amber health code restrictions on incoming travellers would be lifted.

It has been an exceptionally busy year for APSA, and the Association has taken the opportunity to re-connect with the global superyacht community by making a big push to attend a number of key events. These included forums and boat shows in Dubai, Queensland (Gold Coast and Sanctuary Cove), Sydney, Southampton, Monaco, Ft Lauderdale, and Amsterdam. If fact in 2022, APSA has officially attended more large-scale superyacht events around the world than in any time in its history.
Superyacht Australia, the peak body for the Australian superyacht industry is excited to announce that the fourth annual iconic superyacht event, the Superyacht Australia Soirée, will be held on Saturday March 11, 2023, at Jones Bay Marina, Pyrmont from 2.00pm – 8.00pm. Over 120 delegates attended the Gulf Superyacht Summit 2022 held in Dubai in early November. Previously known as The International Superyacht Summit the event was acquired by Superyacht Times in May 2022. The fourth edition of the Gulf Superyacht Summit in Dubai highlighted the interest in the growing GCC Superyacht market.
Kaohsiung City, Taiwan is hosting a series of Christmas themed events that started on the 12th November and continue onto January 2023. The Love River Bay has been turned into a combined ‘Light and Sound’ extravaganza that incorporates the Kaohsiung Pop Music Center complex, the harbour, and the Christmas market festivities.

Over 80 potential crew and their parents joined a ‘Superyacht Career Night’ event that was jointly hosted by Marine Jobs, Superyacht Australia and Superyacht Crew Academy. The event was organised to attract and educated young people on how to join the superyacht community and become part of an exciting and thriving industry.
The 2022 edition of the Superyacht Gathering was the Pinnacle Event which took place from 23-25 November with a total of 66 guests – included 22 overseas attendees – who gathered in Auckland for three days of networking, inspirational talks, and a showcase of authentic Kiwi culture.

This year, APSA returned to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) for the first time since 2015, and it was a great opportunity to reconnect with the US superyacht community. Next stop for APSA is METSTRADE, which is a strong B2B platform, and APSA looks forward to following up with existing members and meeting potential new members as well.
The Australian Marine Industry Awards, organised and hosted by the Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX), cover categories for the superyacht, commercial marine and marine export sectors of the industry. The Australian Marine Industry Apprentice of the Year Award is proving extremely important as businesses recruit, train and support their new team members embarking upon a career in the Australian marine industry.
