January has been an exceptionally busy month, involving two New Year Celebrations! APSA kicked off the year with the Thailand Yachting Conference and the Thailand International Boat Show (TIBS), which was held at the Phuket Yacht Haven marina for the first time. The Thai Prime Minister, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, officiated at the Opening Ceremony, underlining the importance of the show as an economic driver for luxury tourism, and its continued role in the development of the Thai marine industry.

The Thailand International Boat Show: A Luxury Lifestyle Event (TIBS) held at Phuket Yacht Haven Marina for the first time, ran from 9-12 January 2025. Officially opened by the Prime Minister of Thailand, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the opening ceremony was attended by dignitaries and distinguished guests from central and local government, showing the importance of the show as an economic driver for luxury tourism, and a platform to showcase Thailand’s soft power while supporting the sustainable growth of Thailand’s marine industry.

The Thailand Yachting Conference, held on 8 January 2025 in Phuket, brought together 150 industry professionals, policymakers, and marine enthusiasts to discuss sustainability, innovation, inclusivity and the growth of the superyacht sector in Thailand. Organized by JAND Group Co. Ltd, the conference set the tone for the Thailand International Boat Show (TIBS): A Luxury Lifestyle Event, which took place 9-12 January 2025, and showcased the vibrancy of Asia’s marine sector.

At the Blue Innovation Dock during the boot Düsseldorf boat show (18-26 January 2025), Sanlorenzo presented its innovative new project for the creation of the first bi-fuel green methanol propulsion system. Developed in partnership with MAN, this ground-breaking system will be installed on the Italian shipyard’s new 50 X-Space and will enable a reduction in navigation emissions by up to 70%.

The United Kingdom Electronic Travel Authorisation (UK ETA) is an official travel permit introduced by the British government for nationals of visa-exempt countries. Beran Island has been a hive of activity at the start of 2025. Reo Stevens coaching has been hosting a private island group of wind sports enthusiasts. With the North Pacific kicking into gear in earnest and the storm activity flowing west to east has started on a more southerly trend and the island has been lighting up for the 12 lucky guests who have the Atoll and all the marine toys to themselves this past week.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) presented the Airport City blueprint to the business community at a major event today as the new brand of the development, “SKYTOPIA”, was unveiled. The event showcased the development potential and investment opportunities at “SKYTOPIA”, with themed exhibition zones introducing the major projects, attracting over 300 business leaders from Hong Kong, Mainland and international business community.

The Southeast Asia Yachting Conference 2025 (SEA Yachting Conference 2025) is set to return, offering a world-class platform to discuss the unique challenges and advantages in the yachting industry across Southeast Asia. Taking place on 8-9 April 2025 at ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, this two-day event will bring together a spectrum of international experts and key regional yachting trade to tackle critical topics shaping the Southeast Asia yachting landscape, including Hong Kong and Australasia’s influence in the region.

ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove Singapore is set to host the third edition of the Singapore Yachting Festival (SYF) from 10 – 13 April 2025. Anticipating close to 13,000 visitors, SYF 2025 will boast a significant increase in exhibition and festival space, incorporating new elements including a 1000+sqm land-based exhibition hall, a dedicated superyacht zone and more on-water leisure marine activities for participation.

The Asia-Pacific Superyacht Summit is set to reconvene for its second edition at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in Hong Kong on 7 and 8 May 2025, and APSA is pleased to a Supporting Partner. Proposed line up of topics to include: Japan as a superyacht destination, Vietnam Government’s interest in yachting, Family Offices and yachting, and the refit market in Asia. Paolo Vitelli, founder of the Azimut-Benetti Group, passed away following an accident at his home in Val d'Aosta on 31 December 2024. Vitelli was born in Turin in 1947, and graduated with a degree in Economics and Business in 1970. While still a student, he used the proceeds of a nightclub venture to finance the start-up of Azimut, subcontracting the construction of "economical but reliable" boats.
